Utility
The AMI system center is generally located at the utility. Queries on user power consumption, load and tamper can be made at the utility. By reading data from the DCUs or energy meters, the utility analyze consumption habits of users. Meter reading via the AMI eliminates human errors from manual reading.
GPRS+PLC
The DCU uplinks the master station via GPRS and downlinks energy meters via PLC. The data of energy meters are collected by concentrators to the AMI system where data queries can be made.
GPRS+RF
The DCU uplinks the master station via GPRS and downlinks energy meters via RF. As RF is wireless communication, energy meters can be installed in convenient places where communication distance is short and there are few blocks.
GPRS+PLC+RS485
The DCU uplinks the master station via GPRS and downlinks the collector via PLC. The collector communicates with energy meters via RS485. For cluster meters, one RS 485 collector is connected to multiple metes. This reduces costs to a large extent.
AMI Solution
The Advanced Metering Infrastructure solution(AMI solution) is a smart combination of multiple communication technologies, including PLC, RF, GPRS, 3G, 4G, RS485 & Ethernet. PLC, RF & RS485 communications are optional between meters and concentrators. The Head End System (HES) links to concentrators via GPRS/3G/4G/Ethernet. A few common combinations are PLC+GPRS, RF+GPRS and RS485+PLC+GPRS. PLC+GPRS and RF+GPRS mean PLC or RF between meters and concentrators and GPRS, HES linking to concentrators via GPRS. The combination of RS485+PLC+GPRS indicates the path of meter - collector - concentrator. In some cases over one kind of communications technology are used between two nodes. Web based interfaces is using in Meter Data Management System (MDMS). Star Instrument AMI solutions have been proven in the field for years. We deliver custom-built smart metering solutions addressing our clients' requirements today and well into the future.
