Mother meter
The mother meter (main meter) can be directly-connected/CT postpaid meters, prepaid three-phase card meters and postpaid three-phase keypad meters. It collects and forwards data of child meters via RS485. It also calculates monthly line loss between the mother meter and a child meter.

Keypad Meter
The keypad meter is a STS-compliant prepayment meter using keypad as information exchange medium. The meter can be used with a RF/PLC/ECL UIU. It is easily integrated into the mother-child AMI solution as a child meter.
IC card meter
The IC card meter is a prepayment meter using CPU card or logic encryption card or storage card as information exchange medium. It is easily integrated into the mother-child AMI solution as a child meter while communicating with a mother meter via RS485.
Smart meter
The smart meter measures energy, processes data, performs real-time monitoring, automatic control and information interaction. It is easily integrated into the mother-child AMI solution as a child meter.
Child meter
The child meter can be prepaid card/keypad meters or postpaid smart meters. It communicates with its mother meter via RS485. The master station remotely reads, sets and controls child meters through mother meters equipped with communication modules.
Mother-child Solution
To prevent tampering, reduce the cost and management load of SIM cards, Star instrument developed this mother-child meter solution in which a three-phase mother meter with GPRS module reads its RS485 child meters. This mother-child meter solution can be deployed if there is enough number of RS485 meters and RS485 cabling is not challenging.
